What’s in Weed Edibles?

weed edibles

If you have watched any teen movies or were a fan of That 70’s Show, you are no doubt familiar with pot brownies. But while that cliché item might still be one of the first things to cross your mind when you hear of weed edibles, it is far from the only thing being made with cannabis. Due to advances in the art of incorporating cannabis into food items, a wide range of products now exist, meaning you can almost definitely find something to your tastes.

Today, you can buy water and other beverages, cooking oil, mints, gummies, and of course, brownies infused with cannabis, the consumption of which allows you to feel the effect of weed without needing to smoke flower or vaporize concentrates. For those new to using weed, it’s perhaps the easiest method since all it requires is eating or drinking.

Because edibles have to go through your digestive system, effects will be delayed in comparison to other methods, taking as little as 20 minutes or as long as 3 hours for the effects to hit. Those effects will be longer-lasting, however, than with other methods of consumption. One question that you might be wondering is how much you need to consume.

Edible products measure their potency differently than cannabis flower or concentrate. Rather than offering a percentage to measure strength, edibles will list the milligrams of cannabinoids in the product. Food items offer nutritional information based on a single serving and that is where you will also find the milligrams of THC and/ or CBD in both one serving and the package. Weed edibles with a higher concentration of CBD are typically less intoxicating than those with little to no CBD, though the level of intoxication is determined purely by the amount of THC consumed and therefore the THC dose is your guideline for how much to consume.

The recommended dose will vary based on your experience; if you are new to edibles, 1-5 mg is recommended. Start small and see how your body reacts. Keep in mind that there will be a delay in the effect, so after your initial dose, wait 24 hours to properly evaluate your response. Increase the dose by 2.5 mg or 5 mg every 24 hours until you feel the effects.

If you are an intermediate user, you can start with a dose between 5-20 mg. Experienced users may want to start with 20+ mg. Edibles are made with the flower from Sativa, Indica, Hybrid or a combination of either.
